The Torchbearer of Naadi Shastra and Traditional Healing

Vaidyaratnam Purushothaman Panayil, the visionary founder of Agasthya Ayurveda, was a revered Ayurvedic physician, Naadi Sastra expert, and a lifelong devotee of the teachings of Sage Agasthya. Born in Kerala in an era where modern medicine began to overshadow traditional healing, he stood firm in his mission — to preserve, protect, and propagate the ancient wisdom of Ayurveda.

With deep spiritual discipline and decades of Gurukula training, he mastered Naadi Pariksha (pulse diagnosis) and rare herbal combinations based on the 108 elemental balance system mentioned in Agasthya’s palm leaf manuscripts. His treatments were known not only for their accuracy but also for their compassion — often treating the poor and destitute free of cost.

In 1952, he established Agasthya Ayurvedic Center at the serene hills of Vithura, now known as Agasthya Hills, as a sanctuary for healing and knowledge. What began as a humble ashram with a handful of patients slowly grew into a trusted institution offering classical Panchakarma, herbal formulations, and holistic rejuvenation programs.

Recognized with the honorary title “Vaidyaratnam” (The Jewel Among Physicians), he dedicated his life to training the next generation of healers, preserving endangered herbs, and documenting rare Ayurvedic formulas — many of which are now used in Agasthya’s signature formulations like Teravita Max.

Today, his legacy continues through the growing branches of Agasthya Ayurveda, the thriving herbal research gardens, and the thousands of lives healed through his timeless knowledge.
